This is a grey shirt with black and white print. Death is Dead is the name of my artistic project with the same name.”Death Is Dead” shirts act as a form of public performance, in which passersby are greeted with a short phrase promoting the idea that life is worth living, and death should be seen as something more than a rite of passage to an afterlife. The message conveyed in this piece comes from personal experiences, applying them to a greater cultural context. My friends and I all share many similar beliefs, including being atheists who feel strongly about fighting against prejudice against those who are different than us. In addition we are skeptics, challenge ideas based on tradition or societal norms, and feel that religious beliefs often do more harm than good. We also all share the experience of losing loved ones to suicide. These t-shirts conveying messages relating to death are worn publicly by myself, friends and family at events where we have seen the most interest from from strangers asking about the message.
