Worn by the Mercedes AMG F1 team and Lewis Hamilton, as well as other drivers from various teams during the 2018 Russian Grand Prix race weekend in a show of solidarity for Motorsport for Equality—a group dedicated to bringing attention to global issues of diversity, equality and inclusion.

Founded in 1957 the German GPDA is a body of racing drivers that have the common goal of improving safety in motor racing. The German GPDA united with the British Racing Drivers Club and other European drivers in 1991 to form the Grand Prix Drivers Association. Their first driver safety agreement was to demand that black flags were used to indicate disqualification, this came into effect during the 1991 Formula One season.
