Charles Barkley Remains Uncertain About ‘Inside the NBA’ Move to ESPN

 The beloved basketball show Inside the NBA, known for its iconic quartet of Ernie Johnson, Charles Barkley, Kenny Smith, and Shaquille O’Neal, is set to expand its reach. Through a partnership between TNT Sports and the NBA, the 21-time Emmy award-winning program will begin airing on ESPN and ABC starting in the 2025-26 season. However, one of the show’s biggest personalities, Charles Barkley, might not make the transition.

In a recent interview on The Dan Patrick Show, Barkley revealed that he has not yet decided whether to continue with the show as it moves to ESPN.

“I haven’t decided yet,” Barkley admitted when asked if his current contract would carry over to ESPN. “I’m listening to NBC and Amazon and want to know everything that’s on the table for me before I sign in. I love those guys at ESPN, and if we end up there, I’m gonna do the best I possibly can.”

The uncertainty stems largely from the lack of clarity about what his new schedule might look like. Barkley expressed frustration over the absence of concrete details about his workload.

“They haven’t even given us any type of schedule whatsoever,” he explained. “I’d be doing myself a disservice not to meet with NBC—which I have—and meet with Amazon—which I have. The No. 1 thing I’ve told everybody is, ‘Can you please give me a damn schedule?’ Because nobody knows anything. At least with TNT, I always knew, ‘Hey, this is our schedule.’ I wanna know how much I’m gonna be working!”

Dan Patrick, who worked at ESPN for nearly two decades, warned Barkley that the transition could come with a heavier workload.

“If you end up at ESPN,” Patrick said, “you’ll be working a lot more than you think you’re gonna be working. I know what they do.”

Barkley responded by emphasizing the importance of understanding expectations. “I wanna know what they’re expecting. Are we gonna have the same schedule? Are we going to have to do ABC, ESPN, and TNT? Because TNT, I think they originally wanted to keep doing something. So I’m not gonna be doing both. I’m not gonna be doing ABC, ESPN, and TNT. That’s not gonna happen.”

In 2022, Barkley signed a lucrative 10-year, $210 million contract extension with Warner Bros. Discovery, the parent company of TNT. It remains to be seen whether Barkley will honor that contract or explore new opportunities with NBC or Amazon.

As Inside the NBA prepares for its groundbreaking move, fans will have to wait to see if the outspoken and entertaining analyst stays with the program or takes a different path.
