President Donald Trump hosted a notable guest from the sports world at the White House today, as the 47th President welcomed Atlanta Falcons quarterback Kirk Cousins to the Oval Office.

The two posed for a photo, which was shared on Twitter by Margo Martin, Special Assistant to the President and Communications Advisor.

In the image, Cousins is seen smiling alongside Trump, who is giving a thumbs-up. Martin captioned the post with “#18 🤝 #47,” referencing Cousins’ jersey number (18) and Trump’s position as the 47th President of the United States.

While Trump’s recent re-election campaign was a resounding success, Cousins’ season did not follow the same trajectory.

Named the Falcons’ starting quarterback, Cousins eventually lost his position to rookie Michael Penix Jr. The Falcons failed to make the playoffs last season, but Penix’s performance indicated promise for the team’s future.

Meanwhile, Cousins has become the subject of trade speculation, despite signing a massive four-year, $180 million contract just a season ago at the age of 36. His salary cap hit will jump from $25 million last season to an eye-watering $40 million in 2025, including a base salary of $27.5 million and a $12.5 million signing bonus.

The Falcons have an opt-out clause in his contract for the 2026 offseason. However, if they release him, they would absorb a hefty $35 million in dead cap space.

Last season, Cousins struggled on the field, tying with Baker Mayfield for the most interceptions thrown and posting the fourth-worst QBR among quarterbacks with at least 13 starts.
